As an Airline Commander game designer, I developed the PvP live ops competition mode, leveraging complex flight paths and a challenging gameplay experience. I collaborated with the development team to balance mechanics, rewards, and matchmaking, while integrating player feedback for a fun and fair competition environment.

Objective

Design live ops PvP mode that will allow player to compete with each other to win rewards. Identify and incorporate key gameplay elements such as scoring and mechanics to create a balanced environment. Gather feedback from players to ensure the event meets the needs and expectations of the game’s community.

Solution

I’ve joined the Airline Commander team, when it was already established product with engaged players that were eager to form communities ( subreddit and facebook groups ). The team strategy at the moment involved producing great quantity of modern features as the design of the game was greatly outdated. Main target we’ve been tasked to overcome was low ARPPU.

My first task was laying the foundation of LiveOps system by creating Events feature. I’ve started by conducting the user research aimed at learning about demographic, user motivations, and level of experience with aviation among our players.
